Summary & Key Duties
The Budget/Finance Manager is responsible for providing both accounting/financial support and strategic budgeting expertise. The position reports to the Director of Operations, or should that position be vacant, the Executive Director.
Accounting/Financial
- Verify account balances for grantee payments and operating accounts; implement wire transfers and maintain wire transfer and signatory authorization records; process operating and grantee payments; maintain vendor records
- Record journal entries for payroll in the general ledger (salaries, retirement, payroll taxes, etc.)
- Post accounts receivable and accounts payable / prepare bank deposits, maintain deposit ledger
- Manage and interact within and between QuickBooks Online and financial institution’s applications/portals
- Manage various reporting requirements
- Continually assess and ensure compliance with internal controls
- Support preparation of account reconciliations
- Support preparation of Sales Tax Refund Form
- Provide assistance with schedules for tax returns
- Provide assistance with annual audit
Budget/Strategy
- Key team member for the preparation of the annual budget
- Regularly monitor activity to ensure conformance with provisions of the budget
- Provide advice and recommendations to improve the budget process
- Using the budget/budget process, provide effective input into the agency’s ongoing operations and strategic planning
Minimum Qualifications
- A minimum of 4-6 years of related experience in budgets and accounting/finance including general accounting experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Economics or a related field
- Certified Management Accountant (CMA) certification
- Knowledge/understanding of internal control practices
- Experiences with HR a plus
- Demonstrated proficiency in using common software programs, including Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and QuickBooks Online
Working Conditions
This position will be in a professional office building in North Carolina’s Triangle area. This position is expected to work from the office with some flexibility for hybrid work after 90 days.

The Budget/Finance Manager position is a full-time, professional position with compensation and benefits commensurate with responsibilities and experience. This position has an anticipated hiring range of $60,000 – $70,000 (plus benefits), depending on qualifications and experience.
